Senior Living: The Winchester on Washington is a newly constructed senior congregate living center that opened its doors in the summer of 1996. Elder Care Facilities: In addition to St. Mary’s Nursing Center, a 100 bed skilled nursing home, the following care facilities are also located in Becker County. Sunnyside Nursing Home is a 63 bed facility in Lake Park and Frazee Care Center is a 102 bed nursing home. Emmanuel Nursing Home is a 144 bed nursing home. Lamplighter Manor has seven market rate independent living units and 58 federally subsidized independent living units. Education: Minnesota ranks #2 in the nation with a high school graduation rate of 89.1%. Twelve different school districts draw representation from Becker County. There are two public elementaries, a middle school and new senior high school complete with gymnasium, indoor pool, theaters and industrial education areas in Detroit Lakes. Becker County has three universities (North Dakota State University, Moorhead State University and Concordia College) and four technical colleges within a 45 mile radius, including one in Detroit Lakes.
